Landlord of the Year (LLOTY) is a very important award for the NZ Property Investors’ Federation (NZPIF), and Resene has become the new sponsor for 2022.

This new sponsor will stimulate a greater emphasis on providing a well-maintained rental and the award will continue to highlight for rental providers the good tenant relationships and property management skills to which they can aspire. NZPIF believes this will be excellent for the greater industry and not just for NZPIF.

Since 2008 the NZPIF has partnered with the previous Department of Building and Housing and later the renamed Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment (MBIE) for the annual Landlord of the Year award. Although excited by the opportunity a new sponsor brings, NZPIF would like to sincerely thank MBIE for its 13 years of sponsorship, which has been much appreciated.

Past award winners have come from the following Property Investors’ Associations: Otago, Rotorua, Waikato, Manawatu, Nelson, South Canterbury, Southland, Hawke’s Bay and Taranaki.

However, it has never been won by anyone from one of the associations in the main cities of Wellington, Auckland or Christchurch. This year the winner and the runner-up will receive a cash prize and a framed certificate. The winner will hold the LLOTY trophy for a year.

Excellence Reward

The winner and the runner-up must demonstrate professionalism and good practice in managing their rental portfolios as well as compliance with the Residential Tenancies Act and Healthy Homes legislation. They must be members of one of the 18 Property Investors’ Associations affiliated with the NZPIF and manage some, or all of their properties, full-time or part-time. In addition to representing high standards, the winner and runner-up need to show they can build positive relationships with tenants, and conduct their property portfolios as businesses using excellent systems and processes.

The confidence gained from winning the award has helped some previous winners build their portfolios further and therefore increase the number of families for whom they are able to proudly provide rental homes.

Resene will continue to be the sponsor of the Resene Renovation of the Year, an additional national award first offered in 2017. The focus of this award is on structural and decorating renovations completed in 2020, 2021 or 2022. Resene paint must feature as one of the main products used during the renovation. The award is open to all members of Property Investors’ Associations who are renovating or managing the renovation of a property or properties in New Zealand. Entries are judged on the description of the projects and on “before and after” photographs. This award also has a cash prize as well as a framed certificate and trophy.

Entries close for the 2022 Resene Landlord of the Year, and the 2022 Resene Renovation of the Year on August 6. Winners will be announced at the gala dinner at the NZPIF National Conference hosted by Manawatu Property Investors’ Association in Palmerston North from September 9-11.
